Tell us a bit about yourself and what you do
Hi! I’m Simon Lowe, a professional photographer based in Whitley Bay in the North East of England.
Tell us about your business
My business is Simon Lowe Photography. I provide professional photography solutions for businesses across the North East, showcasing their products, premises and people in the best light possible.
What are the most sparkly bits of what you do?
Every commission is different so problem-solving is a big part of what I do. Flash-guns are pretty sparkly too – do they count?
What are the biggest challenges you face running your business?
My biggest challenge is time – using it effectively so that there’s some left over for life outside the business.
What have been your biggest achievements and how have you celebrated them?
Going to my first networking event and getting a commission from it. I happy danced around the kitchen and had a beer.
What are your goals – for yourself and your business?
For myself, I want to take more trips abroad: Italy and Iceland are top of the list. For the business, I’d like it to grow and be able to offer training to others.
What is your favourite place in the North East and why?
With my background in landscape photography, I’ve photographed most of the iconic locations in the region so it really should be one of them but it isn’t! My favourite place is the Tyneside Cinema in Newcastle. It’s been the backdrop to some fantastic moments in my life plus I love films, good food and beer – the Tyneside has them all.
Who puts a Sparkle in your eye?!
Jo, my other half.
A final Sparkly thought – what tips would you give to busy, hard-working entrepreneurs?
As we say up here, ‘Shy bairns get nowt.’ No matter how awkward you feel doing it, be brave and keep asking questions. What’s the worst that can happen?
